Ten plus years working across every major fiction and non fiction genre. Every genre has its own discoverability quirks, reader behaviours, and category politics. Here is how I approach the ones I work with most, and why genre specific strategy always beats generic marketing advice.
Cozy mystery readers browse differently than epic fantasy readers. Romance readers search using tropes. Sci fi readers search using sub genres. Children book buyers, who are parents, look for entirely different signals than adult fiction buyers.
Any book marketer who gives you the same advice regardless of genre is not paying attention to how the market actually works.
Every genre below is one I have worked in extensively. Every one has its own strategy playbook. Its own categories that convert. Its own keywords that work. Its own launch tactics that suit it. Its own reader behaviours that shape everything from cover design to blurb structure to pricing strategy.
If your genre is not listed, ask. I have almost certainly worked in it.

Regardless of your genre, the analysis follows the same rigorous framework, adapted specifically to your genre readers and their behaviours.
How do readers in your genre actually search? Do they use tropes, sub genres, author comparisons, themes, or something else entirely different?
Which Amazon categories are worth competing in? Which are so saturated they are a waste? Which niche categories are underused gold mines?
Which top performing books in your genre are the right comparisons? What can we learn from their metadata, positioning, and blurb structure?
What keywords are searched most in your genre? Which are competitive but achievable? Which long tail keywords have low competition and high intent?
Does your cover signal the right genre at thumbnail size? Are you following conventions correctly or breaking them accidentally in ways that lose readers?
What blurb structures convert in your genre? Romance blurbs read differently than thriller blurbs, which read differently than literary blurbs.
Some genres favour rapid release schedules. Others reward slower, more considered launches. Your genre determines the tempo that will work best.
Where does your genre reader community live? Facebook groups? Discord? Bookstagram? BookTok? Different genres, different rooms, different rules.
